Request an Application Packet
The application packet contains introductory information about MacDuffie including a view book, application forms, school calendar, SSAT registration instructions, and other useful information to get you started in the application process.
Schedule the SSAT
The MacDuffie School requires that applicants take the SSAT test for admission. This is a standardized test much like the SAT test required by colleges, but geared for students applying to independent middle and secondary schools. The test is administered at MacDuffie several times during the school year, but students must register directly with SSAT. For more information about the SSAT or to register for the exam, please log onto www.ssat.org.
Complete and Mail the Application
Fill out the application form and mail it to the Admissions office with the application fee. Click here to download the application.
Give the recommendation forms to the appropriate individuals keeping the following information in mind:
- Teacher recommendation forms are to be completed by the applicant’s current teachers after the completion of the first semester of school. Families may elect to give additional copies of the Teacher Recommendation form to instructors from a previous year or an additional subject area, but the recommendations of the student’s current Math and English teachers are required.
- Give the Principal/Guidance Counselor recommendation and transcript request forms to the main office at your school.
- Give the Personal Recommendation form to someone who knows the applicant well, but who is not a family member.
- Provide each of these individuals with a pre-addressed, stamped envelope so that they may submit the completed recommendation directly to our office.
- Recommendations must be kept confidential and therefore must be submitted to the office directly from the teacher completing the form. Recommendations submitted by the student will not be accepted.
Schedule a Student Visit Day and Interview
We encourage all applicants to spend a morning attending classes with a current MacDuffie student at their grade level. We want potential applicants to have some direct experience with the learning environment at MacDuffie and to have the chance to interact with students in our dining hall and around campus. Visits also include student interviews with a member of our admissions staff. The interview is an informal conversation that allows us the chance to get to know more about an applicant than we can from simply reading the application materials.
