Theater at MacDuffie

The goals of the theater department at MacDuffie are to acquaint students with theater history and terminology; to teach and improve performance skills, analytical skills and cooperative skills; and ultimately to help each student develop empathy for others.

We offer basic and advanced acting classes in the Upper School and require theater class in seventh and eighth grade for all students. We employ improvisation techniques, self-scripting of scenes and text analysis of pre-scripted works. Acting Ensemble, an advanced course, allows students to perform productions at area schools, and study theater history, acting methods and styles. 

We perform two main stage productions a year, usually a musical and a play. Seniors in Acting Ensemble (who have studied for three years) produce one act plays in the spring. Past productions include:
