MacDuffie Athletics

At MacDuffie, the after school interscholastic athletic program is an important part of a student’s educational experience. We offer a variety of teams at the Varsity and Junior Varsity level for both boys and girls. While the Varsity program provides a competitive team experience where outcome and achievement are a high priority, the Junior Varsity programs focus primarily on individual skill development and give beginner athletes the opportunity to learn a new sport. All students are encouraged to participate, regardless of their skill level. Overall MacDuffie Athletics is committed to promoting the ideals of sportsmanship, respect, leadership, and integrity. Our goal is to build individual athletic ability, increase physical fitness, and help gain a sense of community.

Our teams use the multi-purpose field on campus, Downing Gymnasium, and three tennis courts for practices and games. When necessary we use public parks and rented gym facilities in our Springfield neighborhood to satisfy the needs of the athletic teams.

Athletic options for the fall sports season include Varsity and Junior Varsity Soccer for boys, Varsity Soccer and Varsity Field Hockey for girls, and a co-ed Cross Country team. In 2006, the Boys’ Soccer team captured the CISAC League Championship.

During the winter season, we offer Varsity and Junior Varsity Basketball teams for both boys and girls, and Varsity and Junior Varsity Volleyball teams for girls. MacDuffie’s basketball teams have been quite competitive in recent years. The Boys’ Varsity team won the 2002 CISAC League Championship, while the Girls’ team won the title in 2003 and again in 2007.

In the spring, athletes have the opportunity to participate in Boys’ Varsity Baseball and Tennis, Girls’ Varsity Softball, Lacrosse, and Tennis, as well as a co-ed Junior Varsity Tennis team.
