Diversity Day 2008 Our annual Diversity Day program will be held on April 9th from 8:00 a.m.-1:40 p.m. Students, teachers, parents, and outside facilitators will lead the entire MacDuffie community in workshops and activities that celebrate and explore different cultures and customs around the world. Rhonda Soto, Race/Class Intersections Coordinator at Class Action, will be the keynote speaker from 8:30-9:30. Class Action is a local organization dedicated to educating the public about class-related issues. With more than twenty workshops planned for the day, MacDuffie students will learn about a wide variety of subjects, such as Irish culture, the Peace Corps, fencing, conflict resolution, yoga, British comedy, origami, Puerto Rican culture, Jamaican culture, and life on a Kibbutz. A group of international boarding students at the School will teach the eighth-grade class how to cook Chinese food; this food will be served for lunch that day. “Diversity Day at MacDuffie is so important because it opens our students’ eyes to different cultures and backgrounds. Many of our students are from different countries and this is a day when we can all unite. It’s a great opportunity for everyone – students and faculty alike – to talk about important issues in today’s world,” notes Zuzanna Zaluga, Director of Residential Life and Special Programs.
